Cap Mona Family Scholarship Fund

310 Years of Scholarship Giving

Caring Philosophy

The Susan & Andrew Mona Foundation was established by Vincent "Cap" Mona in memory of his wife, Susan, and their son Andrew. Cap and Susan were parents to five boys, of which Andrew was the middle child. In 1992 Andrew died following a battle with Melanoma. Although Cap & Susan grieved the loss of their son, they were compelled to remember his legacy by starting the Andrew Mona Foundation. Just a few years later, Cap Mona faced another one of life's challenges when his wife Susan was diagnosed with cancer. Susan's prognosis was terminal, and in 2003, she passed away. While the loss of both his wife and son was devastating to Cap, he decided the best way to honor their memories was to continue the foundation originally established for Andrew. In 2003, the Andrew Mona Foundation was renamed the Susan & Andrew Mona Foundation, with a purpose of upholding the message of kindness, grace and love that both Sue and Andy possessed.

Cap Mona , The Susan & Andrew Mona Foundation , Mona Electrical Group Inc , Port Tobacco Restaurant & Marina and Three Palms Design Build LLC have donated over $8 million since 1995 to our favorite Charities to assist in their Mission and Goals.

Since its inception, the Foundation has practiced its mission by helping residents in the community, offering financial assistance for families experiencing hardships, helping with the educational costs of students at local schools and assisting individuals and families whenever possible.

Since 2003, Cap Mona, the Susan & Andrew Mona Foundation, and Cap's business entities have donated to several charitable causes and community needs:

  • Sisters of Mercy

Vincent "Cap" Mona attributes his philanthropic spirit as a quality that was instilled upon him from childhood. Cap recalls his father, Joseph Mona, leading by example as far back as 1967, when Joe Mona helped the Mount Lebanon Youth Center fund a summer youth enrichment program. The photo on the right includes five generations of giving. The photo includes Cap, his mother Loretta, his grandmother, his oldest son Chris and his oldest daughter Corinne.

Cap Mona has dedicated his life to improve the lives of others. The Susan & Andrew Mona Foundation was created for that purpose. In spite of an economic downturn, helping to meet the needs of everyday people continues to be a priority for Cap and the Foundation. Kindness, grace and love will always be a reminder of the legacy of Susan and Andrew Mona.
